Eucommia ulmoides extract alleviated spinal cord injury in rats by inhibiting endoplasmic reticulum stress and oxidative stress

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is the major cause of severe disability worldwide, which leads to neuron death, neuronal degeneration, and functional changes in spinal cord. Eucommia ulmoides extract (EUE) composed multiple iridoids phenols possesses anti-oxidative anti-inflammatory effects various pathologies. This study aims evaluate EUE on SCI underlying mechanisms. Male adult Sprague-Dawley rats (250–280 g) were applied mimic vivo. Western blot ELISA kits assessed expressions apoptosis, oxidative stress, endoplasmic reticulum stress (ER stress)-relevant proteins. The apoptosis rate neurons specimens was measured by TUNEL assay. Finally, our data indicated that inhibited SCI-induced ER through suppression mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway. Our manifest as a potential therapeutic target SCI.
